Insurgents Attack Iraqi Army Checkpoint, Killing 9 Soldiers

BAGHDAD, July 11 - Nine Iraqi soldiers were killed today after insurgents attacked an army checkpoint north of Baghdad, during the latest surge in violence in Iraq.
The attack occurred about 45 miles northeast of Baghdad in Khalis, the same town where 26 Iraqi soldiers died on June 15 after a man wearing an army uniform blew himself up inside an Iraqi Army mess hall.
